So, here's the thing. I believe I can end the argument about gay marriage. When I got married, my wife and I chose to have a non-religious ceremony. It wasn't officiated by a religious figure, done in a church and no mention of god was made during the ceremony. We're not anti-god, we're just not holy enough to be hypocrites. Now, Our marriage is 50 state legal because it's a man and a woman. This is because when we got married, the officiator said "By the powers 'vested in me by the state of Nevada I now pronounce you husband and wife." Wait... did you read that? He said the power came from the "State of Nevada"!!! Yup, Actually GOD has nothing to do with marriage. God doesn't have to bless a union to make it a marriage. God originally had nothing to do with marriage. It was intended and used for centuries as a way to unite families wealth. So, the big stink about gay marriage is that the bible says it's wrong. Hey, ok I haven't read it myself BUT since religion doesn't have to bless a marriage to make it official then why are gay people not allowed to marry again? What sense does that make? You, in theory, SHOULD be allowed to remove god from your union if you chose so (like my wife and I did) and marry whomever you want. Now, aside from blind ignorance, what am I missing that says gays shouldn't be allowed to marry? Kristen, did you read it? Why would the officiator call my wife my husband? Rainbow butterfly - they aren't obvious, please enlighten me. You mean because two consenting adults in love want to experience life as if they weren't being oppressed for their personal freedoms? Yeah, what horrific atrocity there. Julie - homosexuality pre-dates marriage. Actually if you want to get technical and study zoology, homosexuality is actually more NATURAL than marriage. To hear the facts and blindly ignore them is to willingly become IGNORant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals Sorry "Mom to a boy..." You are right, I am a bit confrontational. I'm not going to lame it all on the fact that being a black male in America I know what it's like to be unjustly oppressed. Some of it has to do with responses that lack actual thought. A lot of people against the rights of others have a tendency to regurgitate the fears of other people without actually applying critical thinking. If I get a response that seems well thought out, I'll respect it, promise.... Read More »
